Anak and Loic win EYS Edinburg 2011

Friday, May 20, 2011 Ignace went to school in the morning . At 12.30 he left home to go to the airport in Zaventem. His flight departed on time around 15.00 Hr. The airplane had only just lifted off when the small plane had problems. The landing gear did not go up in the aircraft . They flew a half hour over Brussels untill they were allowed to land. What happens now? Does he get in Edinburgh on time? In stead of leaving on 15.00 Hr , they left at 20.00 Hr .
The climbing hall in Edinburgh is impressively large. Ignace already climbed here before. He climbed his first route as good as he could. He overcame a difficult first passage in a roof. Clipped the rope in a difficult position. The snapper was blocked in the open posiiton. He hesitated , made sure the gate was closed and climbed a few moves further but then he fell. He was satisfied with his performance.
Now the second route. In previous competitions he always did not climb a good 2 ° route. This began to be a mental block. This time he wanted to have a better 2 ° climb. He prepared mentally . He did not wanted to hear the results of the 1st route and was more relaxed at the start . He felt strong and at a difficult passage he gave everything. He could make the move and hold it but could not go further. He was super happy. He was convinced that he was not in the finals and therefore did not look at the results. When he heared he finished on 11 °place and just missed the finals, he was over the moon because this was his best result at a EYS competition.
Anak Verhoeven and Loïc Timmermans climbed the finals. Sebastien Berthe and Lukas Geukens climbed one good qualifying route and also just missed the final. The others climbed as good as they could.
Two Belgians in the final on Sunday. It was an exciting finale. They climbed higher then the rest. Both Anak and Loïc took gold and won the first competition of the EYC cup. What a superb performance!

The Dutch team also climbed well .They had Tim Reuser (Male A 8°), Daan Groskamp (Male B 9°) and Nikki Van Bergen (5°Juniors Female) in the finals !

We left just in time because the next day the airplanes from Edinburg did not fly beacause of the erupting Volcano in Iceland.
